Roy Elia - Paraprofessional

Mr. Elia was born May 13, 1963, to Dominick and Elveda Elia and has been a lifelong resident (minus three years) of the Walla Walla Valley.

He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in mass communication from Central Washington University in 1989 and an Associate of Arts Degree in 1983 at Walla Walla Community College after graduating from DeSales High School in 1981. Between his stints at WWCC and Central Washington, Mr. Elia worked at two Walla Walla radio stations.

After completing his education at CWU, Mr. Elia spent the next 11 years in the Walla Walla radio market and had the opportunity to call Walla Walla High School football and basketball.

Mr. Elia moved to Ellensburg in Sept. 2000 to become Central Washington's sports information director for two years, and worked as a sales associate for radio station KXLE.

He returned to Walla Walla in April 2003 and joined the Walla Walla Union-Bulletin staff as a part-time sports stringer two months later.

In July 2007, Mr. Elia responded to an ad in the U-B that stated the Milton-Freewater School District was seeking paraprofessionals. He had the good fortune of being hired one month after that and is now a proud staff member in Centrals’ special education department.

When he is not at Central or covering athletic contests for the Union-Bulletin, Mr. Elia serves as public address announcer for numerous Walla Walla Community College athletic events.

“Central Middle School is a great place to be,” Mr. Elia said. “I am both excited and blessed to be part of such an outstanding team.”
